On opening day of Independence Pass road over the Continental Divide, my friend Moose Bosson and I caught the film crew shooting a commercial for Peckerhead Beer.

Here’s to another great summer in the Rockies!

Snowmass Party to Close out the Season

Posted in Uncategorized on April 16, 2010 by ruthkruger58

Another ski season has come to a close and of course, I rang it out with a bang! The party at Base Camp Bar in Snowmass was a blast, one for the ages in fact and I will look forward to attending next year as well.

Thanks Aspen Snowmass, all my ski buddies, and Base Camp for a great end of season celebration.

Aspen is a Value- Who Knew?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 9, 2010 by ruthkruger58

“Lodging occupancy this winter looks like it will come out roughly even with last winter, but the prices visitors are paying to stay in Aspen have dropped significantly. Rates have dropped more locally than they have at other resorts as lodging properties compete aggressively for business, Tomcich said.”
- Aspen Times 4.8.2010

On Tuesday the annual Aspen Chamber luncheon was held where local business owners and community members can hear the latest and greatest about our ski community. According to the Aspen Times report of the event, “A show of hands from business representatives who had a better March this year than last indicated few in the room had seen improvement, but a March survey of ACRA members indicated some businesses expect to do better this year than they did in 2009.”

In addition, the Times reported, “Bill Tomcich, president of local reservations agency Stay Aspen Snowmass, offered one of the brighter reports of the day, noting Aspen has enjoyed three straight years of increased commercial airline capacity, an anomaly among mountain resorts around the West.”

This eight-week series just finished its seventh year at Aspen Snowmass and finished with a bang!

It has become a mainstay and weekly favorite for the best snowboarders and skiers in the state of Colorado. Each week they gather to perform the latest tricks for a chance at a weekly prize purse and series points on the busy Fanny Hill/Snowmass Mall intersection. Judges will choose four skiers and four snowboarders from the jam session to continue on to the finals. The finalists will have one jump and then be placed according to best trick.

Fallen Friends Memorial & Blitzenbanger – Aspen Highlands

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22, 2010 by ruthkruger58

Fallen Friends came to Aspen Highlands on Saturday, March 20th. This is a memorial event to benefit AVSC (Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club) Scholarships and honors fallen skiers and riders including John Nicoletta and Wallace Westfeldt. Teams of 2-5 dress up in costume and compete on jibs, bumps and jumps on Scarletts Run.

The Aspen Brewery and KSPN (along with a dozen or so microbreweries) held the annual Blitzenbanger Beer Festival at Aspen Highlands. In front of the Northwoods Lodge (think closing party) breweries were pouring delicious beers and KSPN was giving away prizes… a very fun event indeed.

St. Patricks Day Strikes Again

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22, 2010 by ruthkruger58

St. Patricks day is named after the infamous Saint Patrick (AD 387–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. It began as a purely Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 1600s.  In 2010 I once again celebrated my roots and skied Ajax in honor of St. Pat!

There are other ways to pay homage- shrines! Always a fun activity, I gave Schneidee the Ajax Shrine Tour and we had some fun in the trees and nooks and cranny’s of Aspen Mountain.

Not bad for a Friday

Skiing at Highlands on a Friday afternoon between office meetings and dinner with friends… not bad at all. I wish everyone had as much fun on a Friday as I do!
